The way up, on, and over.

‘A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.‘
I felt like writing down this quote. It seemed like a good way to start. I'm having trouble with it lately. Starting that is. Maybe it's because every start means that there will be an end. Tying loose ends, closing circles, finishing chapters - an outcome of some sort.  It doesn't matter what we call it. It's kind of scary. Being the thought-out person that I am, I feel like I react with fear when I’m uncertain of the outcome. Uncertainty being the operative word. But truth is, as long as I don’t start, uncertainty is all I will have. It's like darkness, stare at it for too long and you will eventually see what isn’t there. And oh how my mind likes to play. I know I must be talking in codes, but maybe some of you might also be working on your graduate work or whatever kind of a creative project and may just relate to my torment. Self-doubt is never good. It clutters the mind and keeps us from being the awesomest versions of ourselves. I feel like I need to remind myself that ‘the worst outcome of not trying is never getting to fail‘. I feel good about 2015. Hope you're well, my beautiful humans. :)

  2. I've been having my doubts about majoring in math. I'm in calculus 3 right now, so it's not even considered the "real stuff" for a math major and I already feel outsmarted by everyone else in my class. I've been having a lot of doubt in my ability to become knowledgeable about mathematics, especially when it starts getting really intense. How much information can I actually retain? But I really love doing math and I just remind myself that it's possible. If other people can do it, then so can I.

    One of my favorite quotes is "Nothing in this world that is worth having comes easy.", and I think that quote applies to a lot of things in life, whether that be learning new skills for your aspiring career, or facing the problems within a relationship, or even simply and generally doing something that you've always wanted to do but have been too scared to.

    Also this is kind of off-topic, but what do those arm tattoos say? :)

      I feel like having doubts is completely normal. Kind of necessary even. Keeps us alert and objective when it comes to evaluating our own work, progress and skills. But when doubts become too overpowering and keep us from reaching out of from our comfort zones, I feel like reminding ourselves why we first started is essential. If you love math than I think you should power on and trust yourself. :)

      My tattoo is in Estonian and it's a line from one of my favorite poems.
      I'm glad I was able to inspire you. This is the reason I keep writing this blog.

  8. I don't know what's with your photos but every time I'm here in you blog it feels like home and yes I've been in that situation where I doubt myself so much if that design will look good or not and I end up not finishing it on time. Thank you for sharing that quote!

    Please Kerti, do not sink into fear or self-doubts. Just follow your ideas and let them to bent fully, the outcome will be great, as usual. I am one hundred percent sure about that.
    The new year came along with lot of changes for me as well, sometimes I am happy, sometimes I am hesitating and afraid. But then I remind myself to be strong and to go on with my original plan, being sure to have nearly full control on everything.

  19. I too react with fear when I am uncertain about the outcome of something. I tend to not challenge myself for fear of failure, but it's something that I want to change this year!
